Welcome to the motorcyclingalabama.info, the companion website for Motorcycling Alabama, Fifty Ride Loops through the Heart of Dixie.

With its diverse terrain ranging from mountains in the north to beaches and bayous in the south, Alabama offers a unique variety of riding experiences. This book is designed to help readers sample Alabama’s backroads with confidence using detailed maps and turn-by-turn directions. Each ride also has a narrative description with information on what riders can expect to see along the route and notes on places of interest.

The purpose of this website it to enhance the enjoyment and usefulness of the book. It is designed to allow comments from readers of the book or those visiting the website and we welcome any comments you may have. Simply click the “Leave a Comment” or “Leave a Reply” buttons at the bottom of each post and add your comments.

One of the most useful functions of this website will be to allow readers of the book to check here for any road construction or other changes to roads before leaving for a particular ride loop.

The first advance copies of the book have finally arrived and the book will be available for sale in April. After four years and many tens of thousands of miles of riding it was a real pleasure to finally hold a finished copy in my hand.

The printing, binding and photo reproduction were all outstanding and even though it’s a hefty book it’s still small enough to carry along on most any motorcycle.

The 50 ride loops are divided into 10 each for five regions of the state, bounded by interstate highways as shown in this photo of a map from the book:

In total, more than 4,800 miles of Alabama roads are included in the 50 ride loops contained in the book.

It’s my hope that readers will come see this website as an extension of the book and use its features to enrich the experience of ¬†motorcycling in Alabama.

    Hello Bobby,

The book is available through Amazon’s site, Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble, and independent bookstores, etc., including the University of Alabama Press website (http://www.uapress.ua.edu/product/Motorcycling-Alabama,5042.aspx).

    Thank you for your interest!

  4. Jay Loring says:

Is there any update on the Roll Out Ride?

  5. David Haynes says:

We are hoping to have it rescheduled in about a week. However, due to scheduling and logistics it will likely be a series of book signings at the same venues where the original “Roll Out Ride” stops were to have been.

Most will likely be June and July. Check back to the “Roll Out Ride” page as well as the homepage for updated info.

    Thanks for your interest!
